Dashain was gorgeously celebrated again this year in Nepal.
Dashain: Dashain is the biggest and longest festival in Nepal that is celebrated 14 days. Dashain commemorates a great victory of the goddess “Durga” over the wicked demons. On the ninth day, people celebrate the victory of the goddess by offering animals like buffaloes and goats at home or at the temples. The tenth day is the main day. The eldest person of a house puts Tika on the forehead of younger relatives. On this day, everyone goes back to their home and wears new clothes. People celebrate Dashain with their family eating different types of meat dishes.
Dashain is a Hindu festival, but it is celebrated throughout the nation by all the religions, like New Year in Japan.
Tika is a mixture of rice, yogurt and vermilion, which is prepared by the women. The red color symbolizes the happiness that ties the family together. Elders put this Tika on the forehead of younger relatives to bless them with abundance in the upcoming years.
